March 5th: Dine Out… Irish Style! The visiting chefs from Newport's sister city in Kinsale, Ireland take over the kitchens in Newport and prepare specialized Irish inspired menus, serving up tasty and creative fare. Restaurants will be accepting reservations in advance. Participating restaurants are Fathoms at the Newport Marriott, the Windward Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Newport, Buskers Irish Pub & Restaurant, One Bellevue Restaurant at the Hotel Viking, and La Forge Casino. March 6th and 7th: Celtic Stone Carving offered at Wickford Art Association: The distinctive look of the High Crosses and decorative knotwork of Celtic art requires a specialized approach that is actually simple to learn…We’ll be able to complete two small relief carvings in limestone in this weekend workshop. The workshop will run March 6 and 7 from 10 am to 3:30 pm with a half hour lunch break each day. The class is suitable for beginners and teenagers; no special drawing skill is required, although all are welcome to bring ideas, inspirations and sketches with them. More advanced students are also invited to participate; larger stone can be secured especially for your project idea.
Please bring personal eye protection (goggles) and a sandbag, easily made from an old pillowcase with about a gallon of sand or unscented clay cat litter inside, fastened with a rubber band. All other materials and tools are provided. Workshop Fee is $100 and includes two small stones and access to tools and supplies. Tools may be purchased if desired.
Laura Travis (BS Art Ed, MFA Sculpture) has been teaching art for twenty years, currently at Hope Arts in Providence and in RISD's Young Artist program. Every summer she 'hits the road' to teach stonecarving to adults and teenagers from here to Canada and back. Her own work in stone explores ideas from the ancient to the contemporary. March 14th: South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade: Is there a more Irish city in the United States than Boston? Saint Patrick's Day week is a fine time to take in the festivities and tour a bit of the city. Below are a few of the many events taking place in the Boston area to celebrate. Colorful floats, music and Irish good cheer await you at the City's annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Celebrate Irish heritage in Boston's most Irish neighborhood.
Where to Watch The parade begins at the Broadway 'T' Station and ends at Andrew Square, South Boston. Your best bet for viewing the parade is to stake out a spot anywhere along Broadway. Starting at 1PM and will feature marching bands and pipe bands from throughout North America. The parade travels through South Boston - Boston's most Irish neighborhood. Since 1901 this parade has become a prominent part of South Boston's history. Southie's annual wearin' of the green steps off from the Broadway T Stop proceeding down West Broadway to East Broadway to East 4th, to 5th Street, and around Thomas Park. Marchers continue to Telegraph Street to Dorchester Street ending at Andrew Square.

March 20th: The Makem and Spain Brothers: This world class Irish folk group returns to Fall River for the annual Bristol Elder Services Emergency Assistance Fundraiser. Every generation has a few acts that define where a musical genre is going, performers so confident in their chosen field that they are able to completely embrace the genre and yet introduce something new to it. In Irish folk music today, that act is the Makem and Spain Brothers.
